{"id":1286,"date":"2022-01-05T08:23:26","date_gmt":"2022-01-05T13:23:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/js1cd06kre.onrocket.site\/?p=1286"},"modified":"2022-01-05T08:23:26","modified_gmt":"2022-01-05T13:23:26","slug":"intersections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/index.php\/2022\/01\/05\/intersections\/","title":{"rendered":"Intersections"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/FourWayStopSign-1024x992.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1287\" width=\"324\" height=\"313\" srcset=\"https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/FourWayStopSign-1024x992.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/FourWayStopSign-300x291.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/FourWayStopSign-768x744.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/FourWayStopSign-1536x1489.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/FourWayStopSign-2048x1985.jpeg 2048w, https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/FourWayStopSign-624x605.jpeg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 324px) 100vw, 324px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A few years ago I approached a four-way stop not far from my home.&nbsp;<br><br>I was in a bit of a rush, so I was glad to see that there was already a car in the intersection, going from left to right.<br><br><em>Perfect.<\/em>&nbsp; Now it\u2019s my turn.&nbsp;<br><br>I tapped my brakes, slowed to a stop \u2013 OK, I at least slowed way down and <em>almost<\/em> stopped \u2013 then prepared to surge ahead.<br><br>Suddenly I realized that the next guy in line coming from the left to the right hadn\u2019t stopped at all.&nbsp; He actually ran the stop sign!&nbsp; I pulled out into the intersection as well.&nbsp; I gave the driver a serious look, pointed to the stop sign, then put my hand up as if to say, \u201cI don\u2019t know what you think you\u2019re doing, but it\u2019s <em>my turn.<\/em>\u201d&nbsp;<br><br>That was the moment I noticed the bright orange sticker on his car \u2013 and, for that matter, on the next 20 cars in line.<br><br>The sticker said <em>Funeral.<\/em><br><br>That was also the moment I learned that a full-grown man can actually hide under the front seat of his own car \u2013 which turns out to be an excellent place to ponder if a pastor can lose both his ordination and salvation for traffic violations.&nbsp;<br><br>One of the central challenges of trusting God is that most of us go through life thinking we know exactly what is going on.<br><br>We approach life\u2019s intersections and we\u2019re confident we know the right time for things to happen.&nbsp; We know when God needs to answer a particular prayer, and we have already mapped out the exact schedule for God to take care of us.<br><br>But more often than we can imagine, we\u2019re clueless.&nbsp; In our muddled way of assessing reality, we may even conclude that God doesn\u2019t answer prayer \u2013 and maybe doesn\u2019t know the first thing about running the universe.&nbsp;<br><br>But as author and pastor Tim Keller wisely observes, \u201cGod gives you everything you would have asked for if you knew everything God knows.\u201d&nbsp;<br><br>We read in Scripture, \u201cDelight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart\u201d (Psalm 37:4).&nbsp; God does grant heartfelt desires \u2013 but not necessarily the way we want, nor on a timetable that we get to approve.&nbsp; &nbsp;<br><br>Likewise, the wonder of serving a gracious God is that he is just as likely to give us something far better than we could ever have imagined.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<br><br>Even when we find ourselves going when we should stop, and stopping when we should go, God isn\u2019t fazed.&nbsp; He knows exactly what needs to happen next.<br><br>And if somebody else tries to barrel through while you\u2019re trying your best to learn to be patient?<br><br>That\u2019s probably just me.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A few years ago I approached a four-way stop not far from my home.&nbsp; I was in a bit of a rush, so I was glad to see that there was already a car in the intersection, going from left to right.
