{"id":2005,"date":"2022-09-28T09:31:47","date_gmt":"2022-09-28T13:31:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/js1cd06kre.onrocket.site\/?p=2005"},"modified":"2022-09-28T09:32:27","modified_gmt":"2022-09-28T13:32:27","slug":"wedding-ring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/index.php\/2022\/09\/28\/wedding-ring\/","title":{"rendered":"Wedding Ring"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/EngagementRing-1024x577.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2006\" width=\"387\" height=\"217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/EngagementRing-1024x577.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/EngagementRing-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/EngagementRing-768x433.jpg 768w, https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/EngagementRing-1536x866.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/EngagementRing-624x352.jpg 624w, https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/EngagementRing.jpg 1950w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 387px) 100vw, 387px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>To listen to this reflection as a podcast,&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/glennsreflections.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=c4927dfbefb9749e5fef1581d&amp;id=3c94184168&amp;e=5cd2a880e9\">click here<\/a>.<br><br>When a woman named Angi realized that her marriage had come to an end \u2013 that her husband had really left her and wasn\u2019t coming back \u2013 she wondered how she could possibly survive the pain.<br>&nbsp;<br>Even after the judge declared the finality of her divorce, she couldn\u2019t bear to remove her wedding ring.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>As Angi recounts in Tim Keller\u2019s book <em>Walking With God Through Pain and Suffering, <\/em>her trust in God began to implode.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>She screamed at him, \u201cI could never watch someone I love suffer like this and not stop it!&nbsp; You say you love me but I can\u2019t square that with what I see happening.&nbsp; This feels cruel.&nbsp; I\u2019ve got to know you are who you say you are or I cannot go on.\u201d<br>&nbsp;<br>The next morning she happened upon Psalm 62:11: \u201cYou, O God, are strong, and you, O Lord, are loving.\u201d&nbsp; <em>Strong and loving<\/em>.&nbsp; The two things she most needed.<br>&nbsp;<br>Sometime later she finally slipped off her wedding ring.&nbsp; She made a decision to give to God the devotion she assumed was always going to be reserved for her husband. \u201cYou alone are worthy of my whole heart\u2019s trust, and it\u2019s yours for the rest of my life.\u201d<br>&nbsp;<br>As she slipped into bed she thought, \u201cI should get myself a new ring to remind me of this vow I\u2019ve made to the Lord tonight.\u201d<br>&nbsp;<br>The next day she huddled with a group of women with whom she had been meeting regularly for prayer.&nbsp; She made no mention of her resolution the night before.&nbsp; Angi recalls:<br>&nbsp;<br><em>During the time of silence with which we always began, I noticed one of them coming over and kneeling in front of my chair.&nbsp; She took a ring off her finger, held it out to me, and said, \u201cI feel like the Lord wants you to have this ring.&nbsp; He wants you to know that you are his beloved, and he is betrothing himself to you for the rest of your life\u2026 He will be with you forever.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><br>&nbsp;<br>The ring she received that morning, as Angi describes it, was \u201cmore beautiful and valuable than any ring I would have gotten myself.\u201d<br>&nbsp;<br>In the years since then, whenever she glances at the ring, she feels calmer.&nbsp; And less lonely.&nbsp; And comforted in her grief. &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>Angi wanted a ring to remind herself of her commitment to God.&nbsp; What she got instead was a ring to remind her of God\u2019s commitment to <em>her<\/em>.&nbsp; &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>The world is a difficult place, and we may struggle mightily to keep our grip on God.<br>&nbsp;<br><em>But he will never release his grip on us<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To listen to this reflection as a podcast,&nbsp;click here.
