here<\/a>.<br>\u00a0<br>If something belongs to you, put your name on it.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>Our grandson Lucas received that encouragement last year from his parents.\u00a0 Whenever he finished a drawing, they urged him to add his name.\u00a0 \u201cThat way people will know it\u2019s yours.\u201d<br>\u00a0<br>Last summer, a few months before his fifth birthday, Lucas picked up a pebble and wrote his name on the driver\u2019s side door of the family\u2019s Honda SUV.\u00a0 That way people would know this was the car that he, his parents, and siblings got to enjoy as their very own.<br>\u00a0<br>Upon catching sight of Lucas\u2019 earnest efforts, our son Tyler and his wife Ashleigh were at first distraught.\u00a0 As you can see in the picture above, these aren\u2019t hieroglyphics that can be erased by one of those miracle scratch removers.\u00a0 Within a few minutes, however, they had to laugh.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s actually endearing,\u201d says Ashleigh.\u00a0 Six months later, L-U-C-A-S is still there, and there are no plans to make an appointment to visit the \u201ccar doctor.\u201d\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>If something belongs to you, put your name on it.<br>\u00a0<br>God couldn\u2019t agree more.<br>\u00a0<br>Isaiah 49:16 records one of the Old Testament\u2019s most poignant statements.\u00a0 The Lord says to his people, \u201cBehold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.\u201d\u00a0 Engraving is not trivial.\u00a0 It is deep.\u00a0 If God had real \u201chands,\u201d this would <em>hurt<\/em>.\u00a0 Why does he choose this part of the body?\u00a0 All day long, we look at our own hands \u2013 when eating, washing, working, dressing and praying.\u00a0 God is saying, \u201cYou are always on my mind.\u00a0 It is impossible for me to forget you or ignore you.\u201d\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>He also says in Isaiah 43:1-2, \u201cBut now thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: \u2018Fear not, for I have redeemed you.\u00a0 I have called you by name, you are mine.\u201d<br>\u00a0<br><em>If something belongs to you, put your name on it.<\/em><br>\u00a0<br>Like an artist who beams over a special creation, like a craftsman who admires an extraordinary project, like a parent who would unhesitatingly sacrifice everything for their child, God puts his name on us.\u00a0 And he engraves our names on himself.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>We belong to God, and he belongs to us.\u00a0 \u201cYou are mine.\u201d\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>We bear his name not only so others can know that we are his, but so we ourselves will never let that truth slip our minds.<br>\u00a0<br>If you happen to be in Tyler and Ashleigh\u2019s neighborhood, it\u2019s pretty easy to tell which house belongs to a certain five-year-old named Lucas.<br>\u00a0<br>Just look for the SUV bearing the letters that weren\u2019t there when it came off the Honda assembly line.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>Likewise, when the world looks at us, may others see a reminder that God really does welcome children into his family \u2013 an act of love that changes their lives
