In 1988, moviegoers fell in love with a French film that has virtually no soundtrack and minimal dialogue.
\u00a0
Human dialogue, that is.
\u00a0
L\u2019Ours <\/em>(that is, The Bear<\/em>) is the story of a young cub whose mother is killed by a rockslide in 1885 British Columbia.\u00a0
\u00a0
The orphaned cub now has no realistic hope for survival.\u00a0
\u00a0
Touchingly, however, he comes under the care of an enormous male Kodiak bear.
\u00a0
The Kodiak watches over him, shows him where to find food, and guides him through the unforgiving wilderness.
\u00a0
The larger animal, in other words, teaches the cub how to be a bear.
\u00a0
Together they face one challenge after another, even eluding a group of human hunters who were hoping to bring back a trophy.
\u00a0
One day they become separated.
\u00a0
A cougar takes this opportunity to close in on the cub.\u00a0
\u00a0
It\u2019s clear when you watch the confrontation<\/a> that the cub has reached the limit of his resources.
\u00a0
The cub makes a final stand against the predator, but can muster only a frightened shriek.\u00a0
\u00a0
This is the end.<\/em>
\u00a0
That\u2019s when a look of abject terror crosses the face of the cougar.
\u00a0
The camera pivots to let us see what the big cat sees, and what is completely unknown to the cub:\u00a0the massive Kodiak has come up behind his adopted son and is ready to defend him to the death.
\u00a0
The cougar exits, stage left.
\u00a0
Life is a serious of challenges.\u00a0 Sometimes you will come to the end of your resources. \u00a0Today you may be facing a challenge that has left you wondering if you can possibly survive.
\u00a0
In all the uncertainties of your current situation, there is one thing you can know for sure:
\u00a0
You are not alone.\u00a0 Someone is watching over you.\u00a0 And you can run to Him, the way the cub runs to his adopted father at the end, to experience a love like no other.
\u00a0
So do not fear,\u00a0for I am with you;<\/em>
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen\u00a0you and help\u00a0you;
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I will uphold you\u00a0with my righteous right hand.<\/em>
