{"id":3224,"date":"2023-12-06T09:58:45","date_gmt":"2023-12-06T14:58:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/js1cd06kre.onrocket.site\/?p=3224"},"modified":"2023-12-06T09:59:18","modified_gmt":"2023-12-06T14:59:18","slug":"no-bad-ornaments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/index.php\/2023\/12\/06\/no-bad-ornaments\/","title":{"rendered":"No Bad Ornaments"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/ChristmasOrnament.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3225\" width=\"312\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/ChristmasOrnament.jpg 277w, https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/ChristmasOrnament-237x300.jpg 237w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 312px) 100vw, 312px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>To listen to today&#8217;s reflection as a podcast,<\/em>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/glennsreflections.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=c4927dfbefb9749e5fef1581d&amp;id=95b03a474b&amp;e=5cd2a880e9\">click here<\/a><br>&nbsp;<br>Once again this year, our Christmas tree is overloaded with ornaments that our kids made when they barely knew how to use scissors or color within the lines.<br>&nbsp;<br>I\u2019m pretty sure that our grown-up children, who are now in their 30s and 40s, could do a whole lot better.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>Does that mean we should abandon their first artistic efforts, so we can clear space on the tree for some really classy decorations?&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>Speaking as a parent, not one of our kids ever came home and said, &#8220;Here, Mommy, here, Daddy,&#8221; and then handed us a bad ornament.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>In the same way, it\u2019s impossible for us to come to our heavenly Father and pray a bad prayer.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>What does God want for us?&nbsp; Only that we would set before him what is <em>actually in us right now<\/em>&#8230;not what we think <em>ought<\/em> to be in us \u2013 even though someday, by God&#8217;s grace, we may be able to make a greater offering of ourselves.<br>&nbsp;<br>As Richard Foster points out in his book <em>Prayer<\/em>, there are no \u201cdeep secrets\u201d regarding how we should converse with our Father in heaven.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>Obsession with polish and sophistication puts us in danger of missing the very point of baring our souls before God.<br>&nbsp;<br>As the apostle Paul insists, \u201cBe cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens.
