{"id":5526,"date":"2026-06-23T10:41:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T14:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/?p=5526"},"modified":"2026-06-23T10:41:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T14:41:08","slug":"a-taste-of-something-good","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/index.php\/2026\/06\/23\/a-taste-of-something-good\/","title":{"rendered":"A Taste of Something Good"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"366\" height=\"275\" src=\"https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/PinkSpoons.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5527\" srcset=\"https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/PinkSpoons.png 366w, https:\/\/glennsreflections.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/PinkSpoons-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 366px) 100vw, 366px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>To listen to today&#8217;s reflection as a podcast<\/em>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/us.list-manage.com\/ArewcnWUGmJ?e=5cd2a880e9&amp;c2id=f3ded70f8771b4074601e71cb2350800\">click here<\/a><br><br>Those who follow Jesus, at their best, are like those little pink sampler spoons at Baskin &amp; Robbins.<br><br>We give people a taste of good things.<br><br>In his book <em>Habitation of Dragons, <\/em>author and retreat leader Keith Miller recounts a presentation he gave at a church in another state.<br><br>Miller had the distinct impression that his talk hadn&#8217;t been particularly inspiring.\u00a0Just a few listeners stuck around afterwards.<br><br>Conscious that he needed to make his next connection at the airport, he quickly shook hands with those who approached him.<br><br>One of them was Joe, a stocky, middle-aged attorney with glasses and black, wavy hair.\u00a0<br><br>He gripped Miller\u2019s hand like a vise.<br><br>Joe admitted that an hour earlier he had been in the neighborhood to visit his mistress, but some friends had noticed him walking down the street and asked if he had come to hear Miller.\u00a0Sheepishly, he decided to attend the presentation.<br><br>\u201cI heard you speaking about a new start in life,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u201cI had given up any hope of ever finding purpose, and was filled with self-pity.\u201d\u00a0<br><br>Miller, under pressure of time, didn\u2019t know quite what to do.\u00a0\u201cJoe, would you like to turn your life over to God right now?\u201d he asked.<br><br>\u201cI sure would,\u201d said Joe.\u00a0In a brief\u00a0prayer he confessed the bungling of his own life and asked God for a new beginning.\u00a0<br><br>The two promised to stay in touch.\u00a0Miller checked his watch.\u00a0The whole conversation had lasted 12 minutes.<br><br>A year later, after the exchange of several letters, Joe begged Keith to visit his hometown in the Southwest, which had several thousand residents.\u00a0<br><br>\u201cA few people have been asking what\u2019s happened to my life, and I don\u2019t know how to explain it to them,\u201d he wrote.\u00a0\u201cWould you be willing to come and talk to this group?\u201d\u00a0<br><br>It took a while for Miller to arrange his schedule. Joe met him at the airport and drove him to his church, where the little group of those curious about Joe\u2019s life had gathered.<br><br>Miller will never forget walking into that church sanctuary and looking into the faces of more than 800 people \u2013 all of whom wanted to know why Joe was different. \u00a0<br><br>Among Jesus\u2019 many claims about his identity (\u201cI am the Bread of Life,\u201d \u201cI am the Resurrection and the Life,\u201d \u201cI am the Good Shepherd\u201d) one stands out as an identity he insists on sharing with all of his followers: \u201cI am the Light of the World,\u201d he says in John 8:12. Likewise, \u201c<em>You<\/em> are the light of the world,\u201d he declares to the Sermon on the Mount\u2019s audience in Matthew 5:14.<br><br>The light that radiates from Jesus not only shines <em>on<\/em> us and <em>in<\/em> us.
